Phoenix Link Advantage Play Strategy

Manufacturer: Aristocrat

How the advantage works

Phoenix Link has a hold & spin feature that is triggered by accumulating phoenix symbols. The phoenix symbols counter resets to a random value between 100 and 1500, and must hit before it reaches 1888.

Additional notes on Phoenix Link

  • This game is essentially the successor to Buffalo Link, but it differs in a few key ways:

    • The MHB counter goes to 1888 (rather than 1800 in Buffalo Link).

    • The MHB counter always triggers the hold & spin feature (in Buffalo Link, it will randomly either be the hold & spin or free games). During the hold & spin feature, if no additional phoenix symbols land in the first three spins, it will trigger the feature again, giving you additional chances to land prizes. So the MHB feature is lower variance compared to Buffalo Link, where it is common to get features that pay close to zero.

    • The phoenix symbols (with prizes on them) increase the MHB counter. In Buffalo Link, the buffalo heads (the highest paying symbol) increase the counter.

    • The MHB counter resets to a random value between 100 and 1500 (rather than always 100 in Buffalo Link). This means you are more likely to find plays since the counter can reset closer to a playable number.

    • The MHB counter increases at a slower rate (~1.1 per spin in Phoenix Link compared to ~1.7 in Buffalo Link).

    • The free games start with 6 free games instead of 8 free games in Buffalo Link. Retriggers are also much harder to land, so don’t expect to run up to 50+ free games, which is common with Buffalo Link.

    • The hold & spin prizes can contain double or triple mini, minor and major jackpots.

    • The hold & spin feature is triggered by landing 6 prizes (rather than 8 in Buffalo Link).

    • The hold & spin area features 15 squares (rather than 20 squares in Buffalo Link).

    • There are many more bet levels to check for plays.

  • To check the machine, you will need to put in a small change voucher (a ticket less than $0.50 is ideal so you don’t accidentally pay for spin). A single dollar bill can work in a pinch—just don’t touch the $0.50 or $1 bet levels.

  • At the end of the hold & spin feature, you can hit the spin button to instantly skip through the slow animation of the credit prizes totaling up.

  • The different skins of Phoenix Link have slightly different free games features. In Queen Chiu and Sensei Master, the wilds are all 2x multiplier wilds (stringing these together can give massive wins). In General Tso and Confucius Say, reels 1 & 2 spin together and reels 4 & 5 spin together (which gives more consistent line hits). Both versions of the free games feature increased chances of triggering the hold & spin feature.

In the General Tso and Confucius Say free games, reels 1 & 2 spin together and reels 4 & 5 spin together (which gives more consistent line hits). The MHB feature was triggered and reset during the free games, which is why the counter is so low
